Lovers of old locomotives call Wolsztyn the steam eldorado of Europe. Every year by the beginning of May the fans are coming here in multitude for the Big Steam Show.
The engine-house of Wolsztyn has been constructed in year 1907. It is now the only such a place where it is possible to see an old locomotive setting out. There are all over the world museums or Skansen museums with locomotives but nowhere else they are used to work on routs.
Polish Post is bringing into circulation four post stamps on which are presented the locomotives from Wolsztyn. The graphic design of these stamps are based on the photos of Mr. Dariusz Gulowaty.

Following the cycle " Sanctuaries of the Holy Lady", Polish Post will put into circulation consecutive three post stamps. They represent the effigies of the Holy Virgin, who has been crowned by the Holy Father, John Paul II. They are:
- face value 1, 10 PLN - the Holy Lady of Incessant Assistance from the church of the Holy Lady of Incessant Assistance in Jaworzno. The church - sanctuary in which the painting is presented has been erected in 1984. Earlier there was here a priesthood centre with a chapel to which came in 1978 a pilgrim - cardinal Karol Wojtyła. The presented on the stamp effigy is a copy of the painting which is presented in the church of Saint Alfonso in Rome.
- face value 1, 10 PLN - the Holy Virgin of Opole from the cathedral of the Saint Cross. The painting is from the end of the XV century, originated from a town Piekary. It has been painted on a lime-tree board by an unknown artist of Bohemian painting school. .Being anxious of the Swedish charge /the Deluge/ the authorities has transferred the painting in 1702 to Opole. Since that the painting of the Holy Virgin of Piekary is permanently in Opole.
- face value 2, 00 PLN - the Holy Virgin of Tr±bki from the church of Assumption of the Holy Lady in Tr±bki Wielkie. This church belongs to one of the oldest parishes on the Maritime Region. Already on the XIII century there was here a temple, destroyed on the XVII century probably during the Swedish wars.
In 1730 the head of the Maritime department /Voivode/ Konstancja Czapska has obtained in Rome special indulgences for the pilgrims coming to Tr±bki Wielkie and has erected the existing up to now parish church, in which is presented the effigy of Holy Lady.
The painting of the unknown artist has been likely created in the painting centre of Gdańsk in the second half of the XVII c.

Pursuing the cycle "Polish Cities", Polish Post put into circulation two successive stamps on which are presented:
face value 1, 80 PLN - a Roman paten year 1193, linked with the personage of Mieszko Stary, now kept in the treasury of the basilica of Holy Mary Assumption - sanctuary of St. Joseph in Kalisz. On the background of the stamp there is to be seen the facade of the basilica.
The oldest reference about Kalisz comes from the II century A.D. when Claudio Ptolemeo put down in his book "Epitome on Geography" the name "Kalisia". Thanks to this Kalisz got the honourable appellation of the oldest town in Poland.
face value 2, 60 PLN - herma - reliquary of St. Sigizmunt, from the donation of Kazimir the Big in year 1370 in the form of a bust, kept now in the church of Holy Mary Assumtion in Płock. On the background of the stamp is to be seen the general outline of the castle-cathedral on the Tum Hill.
The early stage of the town is closely linked with the period of formation of the Polish state.. The germ of Płock was the erected in the X century, on the place of a pagan worship centre, on the same Tum Hill, an abode of a feudal sovereign.
A huge historical promotion of Płock, which created from this town the most important next to Cracow centre of culture, took place during the rule of Władislaw Herman /1079 - 1102/, when Płock became the capital of Poland.
On the day of introduction of the stamps in circulation will be issued for sale an FDC, cancelled special issue in use of the Post Office Warszawa 1. |
