A special bus carrying thousands of letters from Polish children set off today from the sorting office in Warsaw for snow-covered Lapland. The young letter writers worked until the very last minute to ensure the loading was carried out efficiently and on time. This extraordinary event is part of the Poczta Polska Group Foundation's educational program, "Postal Adventures."
On Tuesday, December 16th, the Polish Post Office's Shipping and Distribution Hub on Łączyny Street was swarming with hardworking elves from Primary School No. 264 in Warsaw's Ochota district. Students helped repack letters of greetings from special mailboxes, which had arrived from all over Poland. The written wishes of thousands of children were packed into mailbags and then into a car, which set off on a journey of over 1,800 kilometers – through the Baltic States to Lapland.
"Postal Adventures" – an important educational program
Tuesday's event is the culmination of the educational project of the Poczta Polska Group Foundation and Poczta Polska, titled "Postal Adventures," implemented under the patronage of the Minister of National Education. The program has already reached over 28,000 preschools and primary schools. It has generated tremendous interest from teachers, who appreciate its educational, developmental, and social value. Nearly 1,000 of them have already conducted "Letters to Santa Claus" classes in preschools and schools, based on the Foundation's scenarios.
The activities introduce children to the fascinating world of the Post Office, show them the journey a letter takes to reach its intended recipient, introduce them to the work of a postman, discuss telegrams and modern mail delivery, and most importantly, encourage creativity. The children drew their own postcards, created parcels, learned about the history of the Polish Post, and listened to stories from faraway Finland. Finally, they enthusiastically prepared letters to Santa Claus, which were sent to Lapland today.
