Health is the most important thing - preventive examinations of postmen at WER Wrocław

22.12.2022

Recently, at the Wrocław Military University of Technology (WER), preventive screenings for employees were held for some of the most common cancers affecting Poles. Let's remember to think about our health year-round, not just when exchanging Christmas Eve greetings. The risk of cancer can be reduced through early detection and appropriate treatment.

The research at WER Wrocław was conducted as part of preventive campaigns for cervical and colon cancer, organized by the Deputy Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship and the Lower Silesian Center for Oncology, Pulmonology, and Hematology, under the National Health Fund. The initiator of involving Poczta Polska in this project was Damian Górecki, Director of RD Wrocław.

Women who hadn't had a Pap smear in the last three years (cervical cancer prevention) and employees over 40 years of age (colorectal cancer prevention) were invited to participate in the study. Those who received a positive result received information about the need to consult their doctor and guidance on further diagnostic procedures.

Due to high interest, the campaign will be repeated in 2023. Additionally, women over 50 years of age interested in additional preventive screenings will receive an invitation to mammography screenings as part of the cooperation between Poczta Polska and the Lower Silesian Oncology Center.

The patron of the event, during which preventive examinations were held, was the "Pocztowy Dar" Foundation.

Each year, over 170,000 people in Poland are diagnosed with cancer. Cancer remains the second leading cause of death in our country. The risk of developing advanced cancer can be reduced through early detection and appropriate treatment. Many cancers have a high chance of being cured if diagnosed early and treated comprehensively. The Ministry of Health is responsible for preventive programs. Currently, free screenings for lung, breast, cervical, colon, skin, and head and neck cancers are offered in Poland.
