On August 26, Nepal was hit by devastating flooding caused by the collapse of a glacier on the Nepal-Tibet border. According to the latest figures, the disaster killed over 1,300 people, over 5,000 are still missing, thousands were injured, and over 7,500 homes were destroyed.
Rescue operations are still ongoing. Many areas still lack safe water, basic hygiene supplies, and medical assistance.
The Poczta Polska Group Foundation is joining the relief effort alongside the White Grain Foundation, which has been operating in Nepal for years and collaborates locally with HAPSA Nepal – Health Advancement Programs in South Asia. This will enable support to reach families affected by the disaster.
The most urgent need today is sanitary and medical care packages. The cost of preparing one is approximately 50 PLN, and its contents will cover the basic needs of a family of four for approximately a month.
The package includes: water treatment products, hygiene products, soap and hand sanitizer, toothpaste and toothbrushes, electrolytes, paracetamol, information on health and safe behavior after a flood, and a reusable bag that can also be used to transport water.
For Postal Workers, a parcel holds a special significance. It connects people and places every day. Today, it can connect us with families in Nepal waiting for water, hygiene products, and basic medicines.
"Nepal was my home for fourteen years, so I know how great the needs of affected families are today. In crisis situations, the most important things are the basics: clean water, hygiene, and quick help, so every parcel is of great importance today."
Magda Jungowska, founder of the White Grain Foundation
The collection lasts from September 7 to 14.
