National edition of the 55th International Letter Writing Competition for Young People

A special competition as part of the "Postal Adventures" program
under the Honorary Patronage of the Minister of Education and the Speaker of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland

Information about the competition

The Poczta Polska Group Foundation is organizing the national edition of the 55th International Letter Writing Competition for Young People, organized by the Universal Postal Union (UPU).

The competition is conducted as a special competition as part of the nationwide educational program "Postal Adventures", in cooperation with Poczta Polska SA.

The aim of the national edition is to involve Polish schools and students in the international UPU initiative and to select one letter representing the Republic of Poland in the international stage of the competition.

Competition objectives

  • developing written expression skills in the form of a letter,
  • improving linguistic and stylistic correctness,
  • developing the ability to formulate coherent written statements,
  • drawing attention to the importance of written forms of communication in interpersonal relationships,
  • involving students in an international initiative organised by the Universal Postal Union (UPU),
  • support for educational activities carried out as part of the "Postal Adventures" program.

Participants

The following persons may take part in the competition:

  • children and adolescents aged 9 to 15 (inclusive) on the day of submitting the competition entry,
  • primary school students in the Republic of Poland,
  • secondary school students, provided that they meet the age criterion (9–15 years old) on the day of submitting the work.

Participation in the competition is voluntary and free of charge. Each participant enters the competition individually.

The competition entry must relate directly to the above topic.

The competition entry must meet all of the following conditions:

  • take the form of a personal letter addressed to a specific addressee (real or fictitious),
  • contain:
    – a response to the addressee,
    – developed content relating to the competition theme,
    – an ending characteristic of the letter form,
  • not have the form of a school essay, short story or journalistic text,
  • be prepared in Polish,
  • count no more than 800 words,
  • fit on one A4 page,
  • be prepared:
    – legibly by hand or
    – computer-generated and printed,
  • constitute the original work in paper form submitted to the Organizer,
  • be prepared independently by the participant, without the participation of third parties and without the use of prohibited forms of support,
  • not be previously published or entered into other competitions,
  • not infringe the copyrights of third parties or legal provisions,
  • contain data identifying the author: name and surname, age, school name, class,
  • be the only work submitted by a given participant.

Only works that meet the formal requirements specified in the regulations will be accepted for competition evaluation.

Works may be submitted to the Organizer:

  • collectively by schools – in one parcel containing the works of students of a given school together with a set of signed consents from parents/legal guardians,
  • individually by parents or legal guardians.

The date of the postmark determines whether the deadline is met.

Works should be submitted in paper format. For work prepared on a computer, a scan may also be submitted electronically; the paper version is binding.
