The 100th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Poland and Peru honored on a special postcard

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Poland and Peru. To mark this occasion, Poczta Polska has prepared a unique philatelic issue commemorating the anniversary. The issue includes a card with a printed postage mark and a date stamp. The official presentation of the coins took place on November 8th of this year. Among those present at the event were His Excellency Hubert Wieland Conroy, Ambassador of the Republic of Peru to Poland, and Krzysztof Falkowski, President of Poczta Polska.

The end of World War I and the Restoration of the Polish State created formal conditions for Poland and Peru to establish diplomatic relations. Both countries found themselves in very different situations. Peru was experiencing a period of rapid development at the time, facilitated by political stability and a strong economic climate. Poland, on the other hand, emerged from World War I devastated and depleted. Furthermore, the end of the war did not bring a time of peace, as a series of local wars broke out in our country. Consular relations were the first to be established between the two countries. The establishment of the first Polish honorary consulate in Peru in Trujillo dates back to 1921. Peru, on September 6, 1923, appointed Felipe Espantoso as ambassador plenipotentiary to Poland.

The centenary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Poland and Peru is a significant moment in the history of both countries. The "100th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations of Poland and Peru" postcard, issued by Poczta Polska, is an expression of gratitude for the friendship and cooperation over the years.

The card's illustrations feature a photograph of Machu Picchu, an Inca settlement in the Peruvian Andes, along with the anniversary celebration logo. A postage stamp featuring a view of Wawel Royal Castle is printed in the upper right corner of the address side, along the left edge is the inscription "POLSKA" (POLAND), and the value is indicated in the upper right corner. The date stamp includes a fragment of the celebration logo, the name of the issue, and the date and place of issue.

This isn't the first collaboration between Poczta Polska and international postal operators. Together with the Thai Post, the Argentine Post, and the Turkish Post, Poczta Polska has introduced unique issues: "50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Polish-Thai Diplomatic Relations" and "Birds of Argentina and Poland," as well as "100th Anniversary of the Friendship Treaty between Poland and Turkey." Projects with other global postal operators showcase not only cultural, religious, and ethnic diversity, but also the beauty of tradition, nature, and architecture.
