Gift of Youth on a postage stamp

BADGE_v2The most beautiful Polish sailing ship, the "Dar Młodzieży," has been featured on a postage stamp. The Polish Post commemorated the ship's voyage to mark the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining its independence. The stamp, valued at 3.30 złoty, will enter circulation on March 28th.

The stamp issued to commemorate the Independence Cruise was designed by Jarosław Ochendzan. It features a watercolor by Andrzej Filipowicz. The "Dar Młodzieży" (Dar Młodzieży) sails with its sails fully unfurled against a backdrop of modern skyscrapers. The stamp will be issued in a limited edition of 180,000.

Nearly 1,000 young people from all over Poland participated in the Independence Cruise around the world. They visited 22 ports in nineteen countries. They served as ambassadors for Poland in every destination. The "Dar Młodzieży" docked at ports in Copenhagen, Bordeaux, Dakar, Cape Town, Jakarta, Singapore, Osaka, Los Angeles, and London. The Independence Cruise's message was: "Tell the world how beautiful Poland is." Of particular significance was participation in World Youth Day in Panama, presided over by Pope Francis. The tall ship set off on this extraordinary journey in May 2018 and will return to the port of Gdynia on March 28th.
