General Zbigniew Ścibor-Rylski on the latest insurgent stamp
On Thursday, August 1 this year. Poczta Polska will introduce the emission stamp "75.
The author of the project Bożydar Grozdew presented on the stamp of Brigadier General Zbigniew Ścibor-Rylski against the background of the Memorial Wall with the names of the Warsaw Insurgents who died in the fighting in August and September 1944.
On August 1, 1944, the Home Army as part of the "Burza" campaign began an armed speech against the German occupier in Warsaw. The uprising lasted 63 days, during which Home Army soldiers and the heroic population of the capital resisted Germany in an unequal fight. The August Zryw consumed many victims - 16,000 insurgents, about 170,000 civil victims and 10,000 Nazis. Warsaw herself also suffered huge wounds, which was practically razed by the occupier with the ground - 72 % of residential buildings and 90 % of the capital's monuments were destroyed.
In addition to the occasional stamp, Poczta Polska has published, in a limited version, an envelope FDC, i.e. an envelope issued on the first day of stamp circulation. It has insurgent documents and photographs arranged on the pavement of one of the capital streets.
The Warsaw Uprising enrolled in history as one of the most important events shaping Polish identity. It was the personification of key values, such as patriotism, freedom or determination in opposing enemies. In the past, Poczta Polska issued stamps dedicated to the Warsaw Uprising, recently on the occasion of the 70th and 65th anniversary.
