Let's vote for a Polish stamp in the EUROPA 2021 philatelic competition
Poczta Polska is once again participating in the prestigious "EUROPA 2021" philatelic competition for the most beautiful stamp designed in this part of the world. All postal administrations associated with PostEurop can submit items consistent with the theme. This year's theme is "Animals at Risk of Extinction," and Poczta Polska has a good chance of repeating the successes achieved in recent years.
The Polish Post has featured the Eurasian lynx, an endangered and protected species in Poland, on this year's competition stamp. The Polish stamp's designer, Bożydar Grozdew, depicted the disappearing animal. The symbolic message of this design is intended to highlight the serious threat this predator – the Eurasian lynx – faces.
This year's competition is another opportunity for Poczta Polska to achieve success, as it has performed very well compared to other operators in recent years. In 2020, it won first place in the competition, which focused on ancient postal routes, and in 2018 and 2017, the Polish stamps "Castles – Pieskowa Skała" and "Bridges – Bridge in Tczew" took second place in internet voting.
The competition for the most beautiful EUROPA stamp has been organized by PostEurop since 2002. This year, the voting rules are changing – it will consist of a vote by PostEurop's affiliated postal operators, an audience vote, and a vote by philatelic experts. Only the sum of all votes will determine the three winning stamps. The top two groups will vote online from May 9 to September 9, 2021, while the experts will evaluate the printed stamps in the second half of September 2021. The final results will be announced in October 2021, during the PostEurop Plenary Assembly.
Over the years, the EUROPA stamps have gained enormous popularity among both the postal community and philatelists. The stamps in this series are intended to express cooperation between postal operators and promote philately. The themes that emerge in subsequent years highlight the common roots, culture, history, and shared goals of the nations of Europe.
