A postcard dedicated to Danuta Szaflarska

Danuta Szaflarska was born on February 6, 1915, in Kosarzyska. After graduating from the State Institute of Theatre Arts in Warsaw, she made her stage debut at the Pohulanka Theatre in Vilnius in 1939. During the war, she became involved in clandestine theatre activities and worked as a liaison during the Warsaw Uprising, risking her life to deliver letters and reports to the Home Army Headquarters.
Her film career began in 1946 with the role of Halina Tokarska in Leonard Buczkowski's first post-war feature film, "Forbidden Songs." In subsequent films, she delivered many unforgettable performances, including the comedy "Treasure," "Devils, Devils," and "Nothing," for which she won numerous prestigious awards, including the Golden Lions at the Gdynia Film Festival. She was particularly acclaimed for her role in "Time to Die," which garnered numerous awards at international festivals, confirming her status as one of the most talented actresses in Polish cinema.
Danuta Szaflarska achieved success both on stage, professionally associated with the Contemporary Theatre, the National Theatre, and the Dramatic Theatre in Warsaw, among others, and on screen, appearing in television series, as well as in the Television Theatre and the Polish Radio Theatre.
She made her last public appearance at the age of 102. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to culture, she was awarded the Commander's Cross with Star of the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Grand Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. She also received the Gloria Artis Gold Medal for Merit to Culture.
Danuta Szaflarska left an indelible mark on Polish culture, being one of the most recognizable figures in the world of film and theatre.
