Shorter retention time for employee files
We are pleased to inform you that as of January 1, 2019, as part of the e-files project, implemented by, among others, the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS), employers will be able to store employee files for a shorter period. They can also decide in what form they store and archive them – paper or electronic.
Employers will only be able to retain employee records for 10 years for employees hired after 2018. By submitting a relevant declaration and report to the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS), they can also shorten the retention period for employee records of individuals hired between 1999 and 2018 from 50 to 10 years. Records of individuals hired before January 1, 1999, must still be retained for 50 years.
The e-files project, which digitizes employee records, is one of the initiatives implemented as part of the e-state program. E-files are beneficial not only for employees but also for employers.
