Kruszwica on 5 million Polish Post stamps

Kruszwica is the latest city to feature its attractions on postage stamps. The "Polish Cities" issue, with a face value of 0.60 złoty, entered circulation on January 27th, commemorating the 600th anniversary of Kruszwica's granting of city rights.

The new badge was presented on January 27 by Karol Górski, director of the Network Region in Bydgoszcz, and Mikołaj Bogdanowicz, voivode of Kujawsko-Pomorskie.

" By issuing stamps featuring Polish cities annually, we aim to showcase their history, architecture, and distinctive symbols. Our latest stamp is dedicated to Kruszwica, which boasts not only a rich history, tourist attractions, and unique architectural monuments, but also an active local community, " said Karol Górski, director of the Bydgoszcz Network Region.

The stamp, printed using the rotogravure technique, depicts a bird's-eye view of Mysia Wieża and Lake Gopło. A circulation of 5 million pieces was issued. In addition to the stamp, Poczta Polska issued an FDC (First Day of Circulation) envelope featuring the Kruszwica panorama. A commemorative date stamp is also used at the Kruszwica 1 Post Office (ul. Niepodległości 33).

The Mouse Tower is a remnant of Kruszwica Castle, built by King Casimir the Great. Initially, it was a stronghold meant to protect the town from the Teutonic Knights. After the fall of the Teutonic Order, it became the seat of the Kruszwica castellany and starosty. It was later destroyed by the Swedes. Its remnant is a tower, a tourist attraction with a viewpoint over Lake Gopło – the ninth largest lake in Poland. The tower's name refers to the legend of the legendary Polish ruler Popiel.

"I am convinced that the stamp with the image of Kruszwica will be a wonderful souvenir and a significant collector's item in the collections of many philatelists. Thank you for your involvement in this project, which serves to promote our region," emphasized the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivode, Mikołaj Bogdanowicz.

So far, as part of the "Polish Cities" circulation series, Poczta Polska has presented, among others: Gniezno, Kraków, Warsaw, Kalisz, Płock, Toruń, Kazimierz Dolny, Sandomierz, Gdańsk, Łódź, Poznań, Przemyśl, Szczecin, Sopot, Sieradz, Katowice, Częstochowa, Gorzów Wielkopolski, Chorzów, Racibórz, Jelenia Góra, Nowy Sącz, Żywiec, Białystok, Leszno, Bydgoszcz and Mińsk Mazowiecki.
