You will soon be able to send a registered letter without a stamp
As of May 1, 2021, it will no longer be possible to pay for registered domestic and international letters with stamps. Poczta Polska will continue to issue stamps, which will be used for standard mail and also as collector items. In line with customer expectations, Poczta Polska is extending the implementation date of this planned change from February 1 to May 1, 2021, to allow for the use of already purchased stamps.
We would like to remind you that Poczta Polska is introducing standardized fees for registered letter shipments, both domestically and internationally. All registered letter shipments will be shipped in the same manner as parcels or valuables, i.e., without a postage stamp. All the customer needs to do is complete the shipping confirmation and hand the shipment over to a Postal Service employee for dispatch. Confirmation of payment for the shipment will be affixed by a Poczta Polska employee on a dedicated R label, which will be expanded with a dedicated field for this purpose.
"Poczta Polska is implementing changes that streamline postal service. The traditional stamp on registered mail will be replaced with a barcode sticker. This is a modern and convenient solution for customers. We were ready to introduce it in February of this year, but in response to customer expectations, we postponed the implementation of the new solution by three months," says Andrzej Bodziony, Vice President of Poczta Polska.
Eliminating the need to affix stamps to registered letters will not only simplify the mailing process but also significantly shorten processing times at the post office. A similar solution is also used by foreign postal operators, including Germany, France, Slovakia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, and Hungary.
Postage stamps will continue to be used to pay for unregistered mail and for collecting purposes. Poczta Polska issues both circulation stamps, in millions of copies, and commemorative stamps, in smaller editions. Thanks to its collaboration with graphic artists, the stamps are highly valued by collectors both in Poland and internationally. Issues created for philately enthusiasts often take the form of sheets or blocks. Collecting stamps can be an interesting hobby, but it is also considered an investment by philatelists worldwide, as the sale of unique collections can often translate into financial gain.
