"UNCERTAINTY. MICKIEWICZ IN LOVE" – the story of the poet's youthful love, in cinemas from September 13, 2024
The film "UNCERTAINTY. MICKIEWICZ IN LOVE," which will be released in theaters on September 13, 2024, presents one of the most famous, though often superficially perceived, stories from the life of Adam Mickiewicz. The story centers on his youthful love for Maryla Wereszczakówna—a feeling that inspired the poet to write "Ballads and Romances," a work that opened the era of Polish Romanticism.
The film is set in the picturesque, almost fairy-tale surroundings of a noble manor near Nowogródek. Young Mickiewicz (played by Nikodem Rozbicki) spends the summer in the company of his friends Tomasz Zan (Antoni Sałaj) and Michał Wereszczak (Adrian Zaremba). They spend time discussing the future of Poland and engaging in thrilling fencing duels, but this idyllic atmosphere is permeated by the anxieties stemming from the early years of the Congress Kingdom of Poland under Tsar Alexander I. The story's central theme is the developing romance between Mickiewicz and Maryla Wereszczakówna (Aleksandra Piotrowska). Maryla, beautiful and intelligent, quickly captures the poet's attention, and he begins to see his work as a way to win her heart. This tense and uncertain relationship forces Mickiewicz to face a difficult choice: love for Maryla or loyalty to his friend Tomasz, who also longs to win her affections.
Poczta Polska, the film's partner, is actively supporting its promotion. Advertising posters will appear in post offices across the country.
