New stamps from the "Nativity Scenes" series – Christmas magic in miniature

On December 10, 2024, Poczta Polska introduced three new postage stamps from the "Nativity Scenes" series. The issue is dedicated to the unique tradition of Krakow's nativity scene crafts, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The stamps were designed in collaboration with the Krakow Museum, and the nativity scenes depicted on the stamps were created by Dariusz Czyż, Wiesław Barczewski, and Marzena Dłużniewska.
Philatelists and lovers of tradition will also be interested in the First Day of Circulation (FDC) envelope, decorated with an image of a Krakowiak puppet with a nativity scene by Jakub Zawadziński and a commemorative date stamp in the shape of a stylized star.
Krakow nativity scenes – a heritage inscribed in the heart of Poland
The history of Krakow's nativity scenes is a tale of tradition, passion, and cultural heritage. Created in the 19th century, they quickly became a symbol of the city. They are richly decorated, full of details inspired by Polish architecture and ornamentation. In 2018, the tradition of nativity scenes gained global recognition, being included on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
This year's stamp issue coincides with the conclusion of another edition of the competition for the most beautiful Krakow nativity scene, held continuously since 1937. This year, the competition received a record number of 245 entries, demonstrating that this tradition is still alive and that Krakow nativity scenes are recognized and appreciated not only in Poland but also around the world.
Holidays on stamps – a symbol of joy and tradition
The new "Nativity Scenes" stamps are more than just a philatelic novelty – they are a unique publication that immerses you in a world of color, form, and history. Each stamp is a small work of art that can be sent out into the world or kept as a souvenir. It's also an invitation to discover the beauty of craftsmanship and the festive spirit captured in the tradition of Krakow's nativity scenes.
