Reconstruction after the flood: Skorogoszcz and Lubrza have access to postal services again
Poczta Polska (Polish Post) has reopened new post offices in areas affected by last year's flooding. Since September, residents of Skorogoszcz and Lubrza in the Opole Voivodeship have been able to once again access the full range of postal services in their towns.
The Skorogoszcz post office, located at 25 Opolska Street, underwent a major renovation following flood damage. Water damaged the walls, floors, and doors. To reopen, drying, mold remediation, and extensive construction work were necessary. This was a response to requests from residents who previously had to travel up to 12 km to use postal services.
In Lubrza, where flooding destroyed over 200 homes and municipal infrastructure in 2024, the local post office was also completely submerged. Instead of rebuilding it at its current location, Poczta Polska decided to relocate it to a new location at 28B Wolności Street. This allowed for the rapid restoration of service without incurring significant renovation costs.
More convenient than it was
Both locations have been designed to meet the new standards of Poczta Polska. They offer a full range of postal services, dedicated shopping areas with a wide range of products, and – crucially – facilities for people with disabilities.
These are the next points to be opened – in July, the completely renovated facility in Głuchołazy, also affected by the effects of the flood, resumed operations.
– We are restoring the availability of services that residents need on a daily basis, this is the mission of the Polish Post – emphasizes Joanna Trzaska-Wieczorek, spokeswoman for Poczta Polska.
Help and solidarity after the flood
Following last year's disaster, Poczta Polska (Polish Post) engaged in relief efforts – from launching mobile and replacement points, through logistical support for local governments and food banks, to expedited pension payments to residents of flood-affected areas. The company also participated in charity fundraising efforts for flood victims and supported flood victims by issuing stamps promoting tourism in Lower Silesia. Postal workers alone raised nearly 200,000 złoty to help their colleagues affected by the disaster.
