The Polish Post Office is to deliver new passports to citizens – the Ministry of Interior and Administration is working on the regulations

The Ministry of Interior and Administration is working on a change in regulations that will enable the mailing of passport documents directly to citizens. The changes will also include the introduction of a new document template. Poczta Polska will be the operator for mailing passports between 2026 and 2035.

The main goal of the work on amending the Passport Act is to streamline the passport issuance process. Thanks to the new regulations, citizens will no longer have to visit an office to collect their documents. Courier delivery will be available for an additional fee to all persons residing in Poland.

The passport will arrive in a special envelope

The Ministry of Interior and Administration announces that Poczta Polska (Polish Post) will be the shipping operator for the years 2026-2035. The passports will be additionally secured with special envelopes, and their distribution will be handled by trained employees. This new solution will be a significant convenience, especially for residents of smaller towns, for whom in-person collection at the provincial office required a long journey.

New passport design in 2029

The ministry also announced a refresh of the document itself. A special team is working on a new passport design, which will be in effect from January 2029. This new design will introduce additional security features, such as a repeated image of the passport holder on the first page. The document will be slimmed down, from the current 40 pages to 32. The new passports are to be issued from January 2029.

Polish Post – designated operator

Pursuant to the decision of the President of the Office of Electronic Communications, Poczta Polska is the operator designated to provide universal services from 2026 to 2035, meaning the delivery of letters and parcels to all Poles throughout the country – both traditional and digital. Poczta Polska has dozens of sorting plants and over 7,600 branches, including approximately 4,800 of its own. Poczta Polska's postmen and couriers cover approximately 162 million kilometers annually and deliver approximately 3 million parcels and letters daily.
