The Polish Post paid tribute to the Warsaw Uprising participants
The Warsaw Uprising is remembered as one of the most important events shaping Polish identity. It embodied key values such as patriotism, freedom, and determination to resist the Germans occupying Warsaw. This year, Poczta Polska (Polish Post) has undertaken a number of activities aimed at commemorating and honoring those who participated in the events of August, September, and October 1944.
The Company's main project this year, commemorating the 77th anniversary of the outbreak of the independence uprising, was the publication of an album entitled: The Forgotten History of Warsaw Uprising in the Personal Files of the Polish Post Archive . The main goal of this publication was to revive the memory of heroes, people who had not been written or spoken about before, those who did not participate in spectacular military actions, but who were also part of the insurgents' lifeblood, which contributes to the history of Warsaw and, more broadly, Poland.
" An analysis of the personal files of former communications ministry employees has revealed that many of them actively participated in the Warsaw Uprising. This fact could not be overlooked or ignored by an institution such as Poczta Polska, which safeguards Polish history and tradition. I sincerely hope that our publication will be a fitting addition to this year's anniversary celebrations and will contribute to the promotion of the most important values related to the history and tradition of the Polish Nation, of which the postal workers featured in the album are also a part, " said Tomasz Zdzikot, President of the Management Board of Poczta Polska.
The materials prepared for this publication were developed in cooperation with the Institute of National Remembrance, the Military Historical Office and the Polish Army Museum.
" On the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising, an album dedicated to the postmen who fought in the Warsaw Uprising is being published. It commemorates the Scout Field Post and those who were employees of the Polish Post Office or became so after the Uprising. The album is another work created during the long-standing collaboration between the Polish Post Office and the Institute of National Remembrance, " said Dr. Mateusz Szpytma, Deputy President of the Institute of National Remembrance.
" The Polish Post Office is an institution with a very rich tradition, and its operations are invariably linked to the history of Poland. Undertaking the effort to publish previously unknown materials documenting the functioning of the postal service, based on materials stored in the postal archives, is very important and fits in with a number of historical initiatives undertaken as part of the public function of business ," said Dr. Sławomir Cenckiewicz, director of the Military Historical Office named after Lieutenant General Kazimierz Sosnkowski.
" The Polish Army Museum in Warsaw, recognizing the efforts of the Polish Post to expand knowledge about the history of the Warsaw Uprising, has decided to sponsor this publication and collaborate in preparing the album by sharing photographs of monuments from its collections. We hope that this will give the album an attractive presentation that reflects the importance of the archival material presented within, " said Paweł Żurkowski, director of the Polish Army Museum.
Our company also decided to commemorate the insurgents – together with PGE – with a dedicated postcard, " To You, Poland! ", dedicated to the postal workers and power engineers who participated in the Warsaw Uprising, directed by Adam Kultys, and to participate in the "Plaques of Remembrance" mobile app project. Its goal is to highlight and honor places of remembrance, including plaques and monuments commemorating events from World War II.
" At PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, the memory of the heroes of the Warsaw Uprising lives on. Every year, we pay tribute to those who fought with dedication and sacrifice to defend the Powiśle Power Plant. This was one of the most important military successes of the first days of the Warsaw Uprising. Initiatives to cultivate historical memory are crucial, and the publication of a dedicated greeting card, "To You, Poland!" in cooperation with Poczta Polska, serves this purpose," said Wojciech Dąbrowski, CEO of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna.
Additionally, the Company also supported the action of cleaning up the quarters of Home Army soldiers from the "Żywiciel" Group and the individual graves of fallen insurgents.
The Polish Post also honored the memory of those involved in the activities of the Polish Post Office. Tomasz Zdzikot, President of the Management Board, and Krzysztof Falkowski, Vice President of the Polish Post Management Board, laid a wreath in the national colors at 41 Wilcza Street. At this symbolic location, they paid tribute to the Scouts' Field Post. This was the location of the Pasieka , the headquarters of the Grey Ranks, where the Polish Post Office began its operations. The postal delegation then laid a red and white wreath at the plaque commemorating the Warsaw Uprising Postmen, located in the Warsaw 1 Post Office building at 31/33 Świętokrzyska Street.
