The Polish Post Office is organizing a blood collection drive in Pruszcz Gdański
On April 26th (Monday), Poczta Polska is organizing its fifth annual blood drive in Pruszcz Gdański. This year's drive is particularly significant because blood supplies have decreased significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic, yet demand remains constant. The most critical blood types in short supply are: O Rh-, A Rh-, B Rh-, and AB Rh-.
The blood drive will be held in the Pruszcz Gdański Center at the Apart Chopin Hotel (formerly the Chopin Hotel), located at 28 Chopina Street , rather than near the Poczta Polska sorting office, as in previous years. Poczta Polska wants to accommodate a larger number of donors (the sorting office is located on the outskirts of the city) and to comply with all requirements resulting from current sanitary restrictions. According to these restrictions, a separate room for the initial verification of donors will be available to blood donors. A room with a separate entrance on the side of the Apart Chopin building will be available to blood donors.
Any healthy person aged 18-65 can participate, including those who have recovered from COVID-19. However, this year, due to stricter sanitary measures, restrictions apply, including for those who have recently arrived from abroad. Due to rapidly changing recommendations, before deciding to participate, it's worth checking the information regarding exclusions on the Regional Blood Donation Center website in Gdańsk ( www.krew.gda.pl ).
During blood drives in Pruszcz Gdański to date, 126 donors have donated a total of 58 liters of blood. Employees in other locations, including Gdańsk, Lisi Ogon near Bydgoszcz, and Warsaw, also organize regular blood drives, sometimes several times a year. The Polish Post also has a Postal Club of Honorary Blood Donors based in Włocławek. To promote the idea of honorary blood donation, the Club regularly organizes group blood donations, including for those in the care of the Children's Health Center in Warsaw. Postal workers also participated in the "Your Blood, My Life" campaign, implemented by the National Blood Center.
