Poczta Polska has started installing a new parcel sorter in Wrocław
Poczta Polska (Polish Post) has just begun installing the first new sorter at its Wrocław sorting facility. This is the next step in implementing last year's agreement to purchase three efficient machines for automatic sorting of CEP (courier, express, and parcel) shipments. The investment in the new equipment, which will be deployed in Lublin and Lisi Ogon near Bydgoszcz, is valued at PLN 158 million. This is the largest single investment in logistics automation since the company's inception.
Poczta Polska, in line with its strategy, plans to increase its share of the CEP market, aligning with the growing e-commerce market. One of the key areas of the company's development is investment in its machinery and logistics network, which is being implemented as part of the strategic Logistics Network Architecture project.
" Poczta Polska is implementing the largest investment in its history in the automation of logistics processes. These capital expenditures, implemented over the next few years, are essential for the company's sustainable development. Ensuring the highest quality of logistics services is at the core of our operations, which will directly translate into increased customer satisfaction and the acquisition of new customers. The purchase of modern parcel sorters is one of the most important investments currently underway ," emphasizes Tomasz Zdzikot, CEO of Poczta Polska.
Currently, adaptation work is underway at the sorting plant's operations hall, led by Mostostal Warszawa SA. This includes modernizing the technical installations in the space where the sorting machine will soon be installed. Simultaneously, Beumer is already assembling the sorter's support structure. All work requires precise coordination to avoid disrupting the technological processes implemented based on the established transition plans at the Wrocław sorting plant, which continues to process parcels and letters. Construction has begun on two additional infrastructure facilities outside the hall: a staff and office building and a warehouse, to which some employees and logistics processes will ultimately be relocated, in line with the planned organization, which will include machine sorting of parcels. Simultaneously, IT work is underway to integrate the sorting machines with Poczta Polska's IT systems.
" By automating logistics processes, Poczta Polska will provide customers with the expected quality standards. This is how we respond to the rapid growth of the e-commerce sector. We want Poczta Polska to be a leader in the courier market. Last year, we introduced the new Pocztex service, and modern sorting machines, such as the one being installed in Wrocław, are essential for efficiently handling the growing volumes of shipments, " says Andrzej Bodziony, Vice President of Poczta Polska.
The new sorter will handle 8,000-9,000 parcels per hour, fed automatically (at a speed of 2.5 m/s for standard parcels). The capacity for small parcels (under 100 g), fed manually directly into the sorting line, will be approximately 6,000-7,000 per hour. Automatic and manual modes will be used interchangeably. Thanks to the 187 chutes that the Beumer machine will be equipped with, the Wrocław sorting facility will become a fully modern logistics center, handling KEP shipments not only from the Lower Silesia region but also providing support to the company's other logistics units.
The sorters are modern, fully automated machines for processing parcels in Poland. The technology used allows for the automatic reading of not only standardized address labels but also international shipments, which often have non-standard address data. These are tailor-made devices, adapted to the operational needs of Poczta Polska and the size of individual sorting facilities. The innovative solutions implemented within them allow for universal use and the handling of various parcel sizes. The IT component is an integral part of this investment, including systems for automating the code reading process and integration with other Poczta Polska IT systems.
In 2023, further new sorters will begin operating at the sorting plant in Lisi Ogon near Bydgoszcz and in Lublin. The sorters will also support other logistics units of Poczta Polska. The new equipment will be integrated with the parcel tracking system.
