The Polish Post celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Legislative Sejm
Poczta Polska officially launched the new stamp issue with a presentation on February 21st of this year at the Sejm building. The presentation was organized by the Chancellery of the Sejm in cooperation with Poczta Polska. The 5 złoty stamp entered circulation on February 8th of this year, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the commencement of the Legislative Sejm.
The new commemorative stamp features the image of Wojciech Trąmpczyński, Marshal of the Legislative Sejm, a lawyer and National Democratic activist. Józef Piłsudski opened the inaugural session of the unicameral parliament on February 10, 1919. Addressing the newly elected members, he emphasized that the establishment of the Sejm was a great, joyful celebration for the nation after a long, difficult night of suffering. The last session took place on November 27, 1922.
The Legislative Sejm's duties included adopting a new constitution. The deputies accomplished this in just two years, amidst ongoing conflict over the country's borders and amidst enormous internal problems. The new constitution was adopted on March 17, 1921. The Legislative Sejm's term ended in November 1922 with the parliamentary elections.
Last year, the Polish Post commemorated, among other things, the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining its independence. Commemorative stamps featured images of Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Józef Piłsudski, Roman Dmowski, Wincenty Witos, Ignacy Daszyński, and Wojciech Korfanty.
