Polish Post commemorates the 100th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between Warsaw and Baku
"100th Anniversary of the Renewal of Diplomatic Relations between Poland and Azerbaijan" is the latest issue from Poczta Polska. The 3.30 złoty stamp enters circulation on February 20th in a circulation of 180,000.
The design's author, Maciej Jędrysik, depicted the Foreign Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Poland in 1920: Fatali Khan Khojski and Stanisław Patek. Additionally, the Polish Post issued an FDC envelope – issued on the first day of circulation of the stamps. It features images of architectural works characteristic of the capitals of both countries: Poland and Azerbaijan.
The beginning of Polish-Azerbaijani diplomatic relations dates back to the 15th century, when King Casimir IV Jagiellon hosted in Kraków a delegation sent by the Azerbaijani ruler Uzun Hasan Aq Qoyunlu. On February 13, 1920, the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Stanisław Patek, sent a telegram to his counterpart in the Azerbaijani government declaring that the Republic of Azerbaijan had been recognized by Poland as a free and independent state.
Over the past twelve months, Poczta Polska has also commemorated the 100th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations with the United States, France, Greece, and the Vatican with commemorative stamps. Furthermore, in May 2019, a stamp dedicated to Polish architects in Azerbaijan entered circulation.
