The Polish Post commemorates the 450th anniversary of the Union of Lublin
On July 1 of this year, the "450th Anniversary of the Union of Lublin" stamp will enter into circulation. It will be presented on June 30 of this year in Lublin during the anniversary celebrations at the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures at 4:40 p.m.
The stamp was issued in a block format, which is highly valued by philatelists. The issue's author, Jarosław Ochendzan, included a fragment of Jan Matejko's 1869 painting "Union of Lublin" from the collection of the National Museum in Warsaw, which is being displayed at the Museum in Lublin during the anniversary celebrations. The stamp was issued in a circulation of 100,000 copies.
The Union of Lublin, concluded between the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in 1569, gave rise to the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. This great state remained on the map of Europe until the final partition in 1795. The Union of Lublin cemented long-standing Polish-Lithuanian cooperation in political, military, and cultural matters. It demonstrated the political wisdom and strategic thinking of the rulers of the time.
The Union of Lublin serves as a reminder to us today that the greatness of the Kingdom of Poland has for centuries been based on cooperation and alliances with friendly nations. The legacy of the Union of Lublin remains important and relevant to this day.
