Poczta Polska has launched a new sorting plant in Białystok
This year, Poczta Polska will expand its sorting facilities by over 23,000 square meters . A new warehouse with an area of over 5,400 square meters has just opened in Białystok to improve parcel handling in the Podlasie region. The additional warehouses are the next stage in implementing a new logistics architecture, which is Poczta Polska's response to the growth of e-commerce.
Poczta Polska recognizes the development potential of the country's eastern regions. The new S8 expressway, which improves communication between Białystok and Warsaw, and the Via Carpatia and Via Baltica routes under construction, provide Podlasie with significant potential for logistics development, including international transport. The first stage of postal infrastructure changes in this region is the transfer of letter and parcel sorting processes to a leased facility at Panattoni Park Białystok. Subsequently, in accordance with Poczta Polska's strategic plans, a modern regional sorting facility will be built on a plot in Choroszcz near Białystok, handling both letters, CEP (courier, express, parcel) shipments, and palletized shipments.
Until now, the Białystok sorting facility was located in three locations. The lease of the new facility at 8 Aksamitna Street will simplify and accelerate parcel processing. It will house 190 postal workers. During the peak season, KEP shipments are expected to increase by an average of 20% compared to last year. Therefore, an increase in the space and capacity of the Białystok Forwarding and Distribution Department is necessary.
The new sorting facility in Białystok is located in the northwestern part of the city, 8 km from the city center, adjacent to Route 65 and the S8 expressway. Employees have access to 44 parking spaces for passenger cars and 6 spaces for trucks. The facility is equipped with modern, energy-efficient LED lighting.
In October, Poczta Polska opened a new warehouse in Grodzisk Mazowiecki, and a facility in Niepołomice will open in the second half of November. This will expand the company's sorting facilities by 23,000 square meters of modern warehouse space.
Last year, the sorting facility expanded with new halls in Koszalin and Olsztyn. A new sorting machine was launched in Zabrze, serving southern Poland. A move to a new facility in Warsaw's Okęcie district, where international shipments will be handled, is planned for early next year. In the coming years, Poczta Polska will continue to develop its logistics infrastructure, investing in new logistics facilities and sorters to support the development of the CEP.
The development of a new logistics architecture is the national postal operator's response to the dynamic changes in the growing CEP market. Poczta Polska's report, "Development of the Courier, Express, and Parcel (CEP) Market in Poland 2014–2023," projects that the CEP market in Poland will be worth nearly PLN 12 billion in 2023. This represents a nearly 50% increase compared to last year. It is forecast that CEP operators will handle nearly 850 million parcels in 2023, twice as many as in 2017.
