The Polish Post Office commemorated the Defenders of the Gdańsk facility in a special way

81st anniversary of the defense of the Polish post office in Gdańsk20For the first time in history, the memory of the heroic Defenders of the Polish Post Office was honored with a special illumination of the historic building of the Gdańsk post office. September 1st of this year marked the 81st anniversary of the Defense of the Polish Post Office in the Free City of Gdańsk, a fact that postal workers have proudly commemorated for years.

The Polish Post illuminated the Gdańsk 1 Post Office building with a symbolic white-and-red flag. Additionally, the facade featured illuminated graphics featuring the company's logo and the inscription: " Postworkers Remember. September 1, 1939. " Gdańsk residents could admire the display from dusk on September 1st until dawn the following day. It was the first initiative of its kind to honor the heroism of the Postworkers.

The commemoration of the 81st anniversary of the battle for the Gdańsk post office began on the morning of September 1st at the historic post office building . A wreath was laid at the monument to the Defenders of the Polish Post Office by President Andrzej Duda and a wreath by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. Representatives of the government, the Polish Army, the Institute of National Remembrance, provincial authorities, the management of the Polish Post Office, and companies from the Polish Post Capital Group laid flowers. Wreaths and bouquets were laid in the presence of postal standard-bearers and trade union banners. On behalf of the employees, postal workers from Gdańsk lit candles symbolizing the relay of generations. The ceremony culminated in a meeting with the Families of Former Polish Post Employees Association in the Free City of Gdańsk, which provided an opportunity to reminisce and share moving, personal accounts of those whose loved ones lost their lives defending the Polish post office in Gdańsk.

The postmen also participated in the Holy Mass dedicated to the Defenders of September 1939, celebrated at the Defenders of the Polish Post Office Square in Gdańsk.

The Management Board of the Polish Post also took part in the morning celebrations at Westerplatte, which were honored with the presence of, among others, Andrzej Duda, President of the Republic of Poland, and Mariusz Błaszczak, Minister of National Defense.

The company has also prepared videos on social media channels and an exhibition devoted to the defense of the Gdańsk post office and the extermination of civilians during World War II, which will be presented until the end of the year at the following Post Offices: Gdańsk 1, Gdańsk 50, Chełm 1, Toruń 12, Kraków 1, and Wrocław 68.
