Poczta Polska supports the campaign for safety at railway crossings
As part of the Safe Crossing – "Risk Barrier!" social campaign, in which Poczta Polska is a partner, PKP is marking railway crossings and level crossings. The project aims to increase safety on railway premises and eliminate potential threats caused by driver misconduct or unforeseen circumstances.
The most common cause of accidents at level crossings is ignoring traffic regulations and attempting to cross the level crossing ahead of an approaching train despite "STOP" signs and warning signals, bypassing closed half-track barriers, or even driving under closing barriers. Another group of incidents that impacts the safety of drivers and passengers, train delays, and disruptions to rail traffic is the destruction of track-based safety equipment.
In all cases – accidents, collisions, and destruction – knowledge of the location of the incident is crucial, essential for reporting the incident by calling the 112 emergency number, calling the ambulance service, the police, or informing the PKP dispatcher. This is achieved through stickers, which PKP is gradually marking all its rail-road crossings with. These stickers include individual crossing identification numbers and the emergency telephone number, which can be easily forgotten in stressful situations.
The yellow stickers, which are also intended to reduce the number of accidents and effectively address their consequences, are another initiative conducted by PKP as part of its "Safe Crossing" social campaign, which has been ongoing for over a decade. The campaign involves a range of activities aimed at drivers, driving instructors, and pedestrians (children, youth, and adults), including training sessions, seminars, accident simulations, competitions, events, lectures for children, field patrols by the Railway Protection Guard, and preventative and informational campaigns at level crossings and so-called "wild crossings." Informational materials are also distributed and a media campaign is underway. Poczta Polska (Polish Post) is also participating in communication activities promoting the campaign and raising awareness among Poles about safety on railway premises.
