The Polish Post Office issues a stamp honoring the 40th anniversary of "Solidarity"

www_badgeOn August 31st, Poczta Polska is introducing a postage stamp from the 40th Anniversary of NSZZ "Solidarność" issue. The 1 million-piece stamp commemorates the founding of the organization symbolizing anti-communist resistance in Poland and around the world.

The author of the design, Jan Konarzewski, depicted on the stamp a hand made in the "Victoria" gesture as a symbol of victory, with a fragment of a photo showing a spontaneous crowd placed within its outline.

" The Solidarity Trade Union is a symbol of a free and independent country and a proud nation that can fight for its rights and dignity, refusing to be imposed on by foreign forces. Thanks to the activities of the anti-communist opposition, Poland was able to regain its sovereignty. Solidarity was a spontaneous movement, a movement of resistance and opposition to the communist regime. Poczta Polska wishes to honor this social movement by introducing a stamp commemorating the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Union, " says Tomasz Zdzikot, President of the Management Board of Poczta Polska.

In addition to the stamp, Poczta Polska has issued a limited edition First Day of Circulation (FDC) envelope. It features a list of NSZZ "Solidarity" regions against a contour map of the Republic of Poland.
