The Polish Post Office issues a stamp to commemorate the 50th anniversary of man landing on the Moon.

envelope-FDCOn Saturday, July 20, a postage stamp from the issue "50th Anniversary of Man's Landing on the Moon" will enter into circulation.

Designer Andrzej Gosik depicted the Moon against a starry sky on the stamp. A red arrow, symbolizing the landing site of man on the Moon, is placed in the center of the Earth's satellite. Along the bottom edge of the stamp is the inscription: 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE HUMAN MOON LANDING, along with the value: 8.40 złoty, and along the left edge is the inscription: POLAND.

On July 16, 1969, the Apollo 11 mission launched from Cape Canaveral Space Flight Center. It consisted of Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins. The first two astronauts landed on the Moon four days later, on July 20. The next day, Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the Moon and uttered the famous phrase: " That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind .

The 1969 expedition was one of the missions carried out as part of the American Apollo space program. The program ran from 1961 to 1972 and led to six human landings on the Moon. To date, 12 people have set foot on the Moon.

In addition to the commemorative stamp, Poczta Polska has issued a limited edition First Day of Circulation envelope, an envelope issued on the first day of circulation for the stamps. It features a paper rocket breaking through the clouds.
