The Polish Post issued a stamp on the occasion of the EXPO 2020 World Exhibition in Dubai

EXPO2020_badge_block_70x90On Friday, October 1st of this year, Poczta Polska introduced a postage stamp from the issue entitled "EXPO 2020 Dubai World Exhibition." The date of the stamp's release, like the event it represents, was postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the name—in accordance with the organizers' decision—remained.

The goal of this year's EXPO is to provide a multifaceted presentation of technologies and companies representing strategic industries in terms of export potential to Middle Eastern markets, thereby generating a tangible increase in business transactions. The stamp and FDC envelope issued by the Company feature a visualization of the Polish pavilion, while the commemorative date stamp features triangles reminiscent of the kinetic sculpture motifs used at the Polish stand. Poland is among an exclusive group of several dozen countries building their own stand at the EXPO 2020 World Exhibition in Dubai. The pavilion will be the main presentation arena and a vehicle for information about Poland.

" For many years, Poland has been an active participant in World Exhibitions – the largest and most prestigious events of their kind in the world. EXPO 2020 provides Poland with an opportunity to strengthen its positive image on the international stage, showcase its native culture, and promote its economy. I hope that the stamp being introduced into circulation, as a symbolic carrier of information and diplomacy, will contribute to promoting the Republic of Poland, " said Tomasz Zdzikot, President of the Management Board of Poczta Polska.

This is another philatelic publication promoting the World Exhibition. In 2015, a coin dedicated to the Milan EXPO entered circulation, while in 2017, the company presented customers and philatelists with a stamp dedicated to the Astana Exhibition.

" The structure of the Polish Pavilion at the EXPO 2020 World Exhibition in Dubai creates an open, modular structure, expanding upwards, with a sprawling roof – a kinetic sculpture representing a flock of birds in flight. This unique and modern architecture is intended to emphasize creativity, a Polish characteristic. Therefore, on this postage stamp, we present the Polish Pavilion as an artistic work that will capture and send out into the world the guiding message of our Exhibition, 'Poland. Creativity Inspired by Nature,'" emphasized Wiesław Włodek, Vice President of the Management Board of Poczta Polska.

Recall that the history of World Exhibitions (EXPO) dates back to 1751, when the first such event took place in London. However, the truly international undertaking was initiated during the Great Exhibition of 1851, also held in London. To this day, EXPOs are cyclical events showcasing the cultural, scientific, and technical achievements of the world's countries and nations. They provide an excellent opportunity for competition in all fields of production. As early as 1889, the Eiffel Tower was built specifically for the Paris World Exhibition, intended to demonstrate the level of engineering knowledge and technical capabilities of the era. Organizers of subsequent events strive to surpass previous ones, including in technical and architectural solutions and the grandeur of official ceremonies.

The stamp design was carried out by Poczta Polska in close cooperation with the applicant, the Polish Investment and Trade Agency.
