The Polish Post issued a postcard "30th anniversary of the resumption of Polish-Azerbaijani diplomatic relations"

100th anniversary of Diplomatic Relations_card_148x105On February 21st of this year, the company is introducing a postcard with a printed postage stamp commemorating the resumption of diplomatic relations between Poland and Azerbaijan, the 30th anniversary of which falls this year.

The official presentation of the card took place on February 21 this year with the participation of, among others: Khalaf Khalafov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Marcin Przydacz, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Adam Eberhardt, Director of the Centre for Eastern Studies in Warsaw, and Krzysztof Górski, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Philately of the Polish Post.

The author of the design is Jan Konarzewski, who incorporated the national colors of Poland and Azerbaijan into the illustrations in the form of a puzzle. This accentuated the national elements and created a graphic symbolizing the friendly relations between the two countries.

The Republic of Poland, in the wake of significant historical events in recent years – the fall of communism in Central Europe and the dissolution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics – recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan on December 27, 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on February 21, 1992. The latest issue of Poczta Polska commemorates this event and highlights its significance.

" Polish Post cultivates the memory of historical events that are still of significant significance today. Using philatelic publications, we recall the most important of them. The history of relations between Poland and Azerbaijan is part of a beautiful historical narrative, culminating in a small work of art in the form of a postcard, which we are honored to present to a wide audience, " said Mateusz Wodejko, Vice President of the Management Board of Polish Post.

Diplomatic contacts between the two countries had also taken place earlier. On January 12, 1920, the Republic of Azerbaijan was recognized by the Supreme Council of the Entente. On February 13, 1920, Stanisław Patek, then Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, sent a telegram to Fatali Khan Khojski, then Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, declaring that Poland had recognized the Republic of Azerbaijan as a free and independent state. The official beginnings of mutual relations between Poland and Azerbaijan are considered to be the 15th century, during the reigns of Uzun Hasan Aq Qoyunlu, ruler of Azerbaijan, and Casimir IV Jagiellon, King of Poland. As a result of the establishment of relations, Azerbaijani envoys visited Kraków in 1472.

The Polish Post Office commemorated the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Azerbaijan with commemorative stamps in 2020. Furthermore, in May 2019, a stamp dedicated to Polish architects working in Baku entered circulation.
