Polish Post will issue "First Days of Independence" stamps

envelope1Six stamps featuring photographs from 100 years ago are included in the latest Polish Post series issued to mark Independence Day. They depict photographs of Jerzy Moraczewski's government, Polish cavalry parades in Sejny and Białystok, the capture of Vilnius, and images of Lieutenant General Józef Haller and Lieutenant General Józef Dowbor-Muśnicki.

The "First Days of Independence" stamp series will enter circulation on November 11, the 101st anniversary of Poland regaining its independence. This is a continuation of last year's series, which included the following editions: "100th Anniversary of Poland Regaining Independence," "First Days of Independence," "Army of the Reborn Republic," and "End of the War."

The stamps were designed by Andrzej Gosik. The sepia-toned photographs evoke the style of 100 years ago. Each stamp costs 3.30 złoty. The stamps in the "First Days of Independence" series, like last year's, are issued on self-adhesive paper.

Last year's issue "The First Days of Independence" consisted of stamps depicting a group of Silesian insurgents, the image of Edward Śmigły-Rydz, Franciszek Ksawery Latinik, the Polish guard at the Kraków guardhouse and a group of Polish soldiers.

In separate philatelic series, Poczta Polska commemorated the Greater Poland Uprising and the First Silesian Uprising. Plans for 2020 include, among other things, continuing the series on the Silesian Uprisings.
