Polish Post: Stamp for the 80th anniversary of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, Poczta Polska issued an occasional postage stamp that will honor the jubilee celebration of the university. The premiere of the stamp took place during the inauguration of the International Congress of Maria Curie-Skłodowska "Innovation is a woman. Science - business - education. " The edition is accompanied by a unique treat for collectors: stamps with a stamp on the first day of circulation and the first day of circulation (FDC).
The stamp has the main building of the UMCS with a characteristic view of the academic town, and in the background there is an image of Maria Curie-Skłodowska, the patron of the university. The project combines modern style with the university's academic heritage. The first day of circulation (FDC) is presented by the monumental monument of Maria Curie-Skłodowska, which since 1964 has been in the heart of the UMCS campus. The monument, created by the sculptor Marian Konieczny, became one of the most recognizable university emblems. The envelope is kept in a minimalist style, in dark shades of blue, complemented by golden accents symbolizing the light of science. The whole is complemented by a occasional date stamp with the graphics of the stylized image of the patron.
UMCS yesterday and today
the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University was established on October 23, 1944 under the decree of the Polish National Liberation Committee (PKWN). Professor Henryk Raabe became the first rector. The beginnings of the university were difficult - there were no lecture halls, equipment and basic equipment. The first classes were held in the building of the State Junior High School Staszica, and due to the lack of furniture, participants of the first meeting of professors and assistants on October 25, 1944 had to sit on barrels. The first university authorities were constituted at this meeting. Initially, UMCS consisted of four faculties: natural (later transformed into the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences), agricultural, veterinary and medical. Currently, UMCS is one of the most important universities in Poland. It offers nearly 90 fields of study and educates about 16,000 students. Its offer includes over 300 specialties, and the walls of the university have so far left over 267,000 graduates. The University is developing dynamically, and students are active in 120 scientific wheels.
