Postal service will accelerate in the Tricity area. The company is opening a new sorting plant in Gdynia.

sorting in GdyniaFaster delivery of parcels to customers are just some of the goals of Poczta Polska SA, which is opening a new distribution and transshipment point at 48 Hutnicza Street in Gdynia on February 22nd. This is part of the expansion of the company's new logistics network, which increases the efficiency of parcel deliveries to business and individual customers.

The total floor area of the hall is nearly 4,500 square meters. The main function of the new facility will be to support the regional sorting facility in Pruszcz Gdański and provide logistics services for the northern part of the Tricity area, including the Pocztex courier service. Additionally, the facility houses service points for institutional and business customers.

" We are consistently investing in the development of logistics and infrastructure, as well as increasing the technological potential of Poczta Polska. The new distribution and transshipment point in Gdynia is another step towards modernization and improved efficiency of parcel handling for business and individual customers in the Tricity area and the surrounding area, " says Tomasz Zdzikot, CEO of Poczta Polska.

The opening of the new Gdynia 2 distribution and transshipment point is consistent with Poczta Polska's strategy for 2021-2023 to increase its share in the CEP (courier, express, and parcel) market, supporting the growing volumes of e-commerce shipments. The company is expanding its modern logistics infrastructure, taking into account current trends in locating logistics facilities outside city centers, in convenient locations, to ensure optimal solutions and facilities for handling increasing parcel volumes.

This modern distribution and transshipment facility provides logistics support for the northern part of the Tricity area. It will serve over 600 contractual clients from the public finance and business sectors (e-commerce) located in Gdynia, Sopot, and the Wejherowo, Puck, and Lębork counties.

UP Gdynia 2 plays a vital role in Pocztex's courier services. It coordinates logistics services for the city of Gdynia (population 250,000), the Kosakowo commune, and on Saturdays, the Puck and Kartuzy counties. Parcels are delivered by a total of 50 couriers and postmen, who collect letters and parcels from the facility every morning for delivery in these areas. The new facility is well connected to Pocztex's regional sorting facility in Pruszcz Gdański. Its proximity to the S6 expressway and the A1 motorway also ensures quick connections with central Poland.

The logistics park at 48 Hutnicza Street is located in a special economic zone on the outskirts of Gdynia. It occupies a total area of nearly 4,500 square meters. Thanks to the building's modern design, which includes docks and loading ramps, it enables easier and safer processing of incoming and outgoing cargo, which directly translates into timely completion of logistics operations. The facility offers excellent access to the Port of Gdynia and an exit to the Tricity Bypass.

The Polish Post's logistics network includes 14 regional and 13 local sorting centers, which, combined with a network of 7,600 post offices, provide the infrastructure for logistics development. Approximately 25,000 postmen and couriers deliver parcels.

The change of the location of the UP Gdynia 2 headquarters from the area located in the city center to the economic zone situated on the outskirts of Gdynia in a cluster of manufacturing and trading companies, international corporations and state institutions, in addition to the business effect related to the sale of real estate owned by PP, was also aimed at improving the standard of work and health and safety and fire protection conditions for UP Gdynia 2 employees, improving the communication infrastructure and introducing new technological solutions aimed at increasing work efficiency.

In addition to investing in sorting facilities, Poczta Polska is implementing the "Model Change in the Architecture of Poczta Polska's Logistics Network" project, aimed at transforming the logistics network to handle the increasing volume of KEP shipments. This project includes the construction or lease of halls for regional sorting facilities. One of the ongoing projects within this project is the acquisition of a second logistics facility in or near Warsaw. Simultaneously, work has begun on the lease and construction of logistics units within Poczta Polska's infrastructure in Kraków, Łódź, Rzeszów, Szczecin, Olsztyn, and Białystok. Simultaneously, as part of the ASL project, work is underway to install sorters for the automatic distribution of KEP shipments at existing Poczta Polska SA logistics facilities in Wrocław, Lublin, and Lisi Ogon near Bydgoszcz. The planned total amount of investment outlays for this purpose is approximately PLN 760 million in the years 2021–2025. The Polish Post has obtained state budget funding for this project in the amount of PLN 190 million from the Reprivatization Fund.
