#PocztaPolskaLokalnie: employment of people with disabilities increased by 20 percent
The Polish Post currently employs over 1,750 people with disabilities. Employment dynamics for such employees is 20% year-on-year. The largest number of people with disabilities work in post offices.
Poczta Polska is an attractive employer for people with disabilities, especially outside large cities.
"We're breaking down stereotypes surrounding the resistance to hiring employees with disabilities. Workplace tasks can be organized to respect these limitations. This typically doesn't involve any additional costs, which employers often consider when hiring people with disabilities, " says Agnieszka Grzegorczyk, HR manager at Poczta Polska.
The largest number of people with disabilities work in the Lubusz, Pomeranian, and Świętokrzyskie Voivodeships. People with disabilities constitute approximately 4.4%, 3.6%, and 3.1% of the total workforce in these regions, respectively. The smallest number of workers with disabilities—approximately 1.4% of all employees in each voivodeship — currently work in the Lesser Poland and West Pomeranian Voivodeships.
In Poczta Polska – out of all employees with a disability certificate, almost 28% are postmen, 25% – people working in customer service positions, 18% – people dealing with back office support in post offices and processing parcels and loads in postal sorting offices.
"Another stereotype concerns obtaining and disclosing disability certificates. Employers take various measures to encourage employees to submit disability certificates, not only because of the requirements set by the State Fund for the Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons (PFRON). We build trust in employers regarding employment stability and respect for all the rights of individuals with certificates, " says Agnieszka Grzegorczyk.
Poczta Polska wants to continue systematically increasing the employment of people with disabilities, also by ensuring their even distribution across our various units and across the country. This is to avoid situations where there are fewer disabled employees in certain locations.
The specific nature of the Polish Post's operations, i.e. post offices throughout Poland, makes it possible to find employment in every region, usually close to home and during working hours that allow the certified employee to benefit from rehabilitation and other medical treatments that improve health.
In July 2018, Poczta Polska adopted a "Policy for the Employment of Persons with Disabilities," which is based on several assumptions. Among them, the recruitment process should take into account social and environmental factors in addition to the economic dimension.
