A postman from Brzozów in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship came to the aid of a lonely old woman

Jakub Drożdżal, a postman from the Brzozów Post Office, is another Polish Post employee who didn't ignore someone in need. His professional experience, intuition, and empathy led him to react in a situation that alarmed him. Another incident that later occurred near the post office where he works proves that not everyone would have acted the same way.

As usual, Mr. Jakub went out into the area and began delivering parcels. He started in Humniska, where he was serving as a replacement. He had already delivered parcels to almost all the recipients. He only had one letter left, for an elderly, lonely woman. This wasn't his first replacement in this area, so he was familiar with the client and her habits. The woman often spent time sitting by the window. This time, the postman didn't notice her from outside the building. She didn't come to the door and didn't answer when he rang the bell. At first, he thought Mrs. Bronisława wasn't home, but his gut feeling nagged at him. He pulled the handle, but the door wasn't locked. The recipient didn't respond to his "good morning" greeting either. The postman continued on and noticed the elderly woman lying near the tiled stove. He couldn't find out what had happened or how she was feeling, so he quickly called for help. After making sure she was in the safe hands of the paramedics, he returned to his duties.

The letter was delivered the next day. The elderly woman's daughter received it. She thanked her for her help and said that if it weren't for Mr. Jakub's vigilance and empathy, her mother might already be dead. On the day of the accident, no one else likely would have visited her. Her daughter visited her and brought her lunch, but she always did so around noon. Those long hours, during which the elderly woman would not have received help, could have been fatal.

"We are incredibly proud of Mr. Jakub. Selfless help and empathy are among the noblest human behaviors. We strive to reward these values at Poczta Polska. Our postman's attitude demonstrates the important role Postal Workers play in local communities. They are close to people and know their customers, which has saved lives more than once," said Krzysztof Falkowski, CEO of Poczta Polska.

The incident occurred several months ago. During that time, only the postman, his supervisor, the rescued customer, and her family knew about it. Mr. Jakub, like many Polish Post employees who came to the aid of others, didn't want anyone to hear about it. He assumed he hadn't done anything significant and that anyone in his position would have done the same. It turns out, however, that's not the case.

A month ago, a woman fell in front of our Brzozów Post Office. She cut her head. She asked passersby for help, but it was the Polish Post Office employees who responded. They administered first aid and called an ambulance. Others passed by, pretending nothing had happened.

The situations described above are not the only stories in which a postman has demonstrated heroism and above-average care for customers. Just recently, another postman from the same region (Rzeszów), Piotr Byjoś, saved the life of another customer. Previously, Poczta Polska employees have repeatedly rescued the sick, the disabled, people from burning homes, and victims of fraud and scams. These are often seniors who are victims of theft, but also those who live alone and often remain unsure whether they are safe.
