Poczta Polska in a new industry with pallet shipments
Poczta Polska has acquired a major client – Tobacco Trading International Poland (TTI), one of the leaders in the tobacco market in Poland. Poczta Polska will provide logistics services for the company as part of the National Pallet Delivery service, which is being intensively developed by the national postal operator.
Establishing a partnership with TTI paved the way for Poczta Polska to expand its client portfolio to serve the tobacco industry. This partnership is specific to excise tax and meeting the requirements of the EU's "Track and Trace" directive – a system for tracking tobacco products that governs the identification and cracking of shipments. This necessitated adapting Poczta Polska's IT systems.
" Developing logistics services and acquiring new, key customers in this area is a strategic direction for Poczta Polska. Despite the pandemic, the number of our customers using Domestic Pallet Parcels increased by 16% this year, " says Andrzej Bodziony, Vice President of Poczta Polska.
Poland is the second largest producer of dried tobacco in Europe, after Italy. It is grown primarily in the southeastern voivodeships of the country. Tobacco products are lightweight, making them easy to transport. However, the special regulatory requirements in this market mean that handling such pallet shipments requires adapting IT systems to comply with the "Track and Trace" reporting requirements.
The transport of palletized cargo, both groupage, full truckloads, and part loads, is an important branch of Poczta's logistics, which the company has been gradually developing in Poland since 2009, and also in Europe (including Germany, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands) since February 2019. At the beginning of this year, Poczta launched direct connections with the Baltic countries of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, and in July the first direct transports to the Czech Republic and Slovakia began.
