The Europa 2020 philatelic competition has started – vote for a Polish stamp
May 9, 2020, was Europe Day, which traditionally also marks the beginning of the prestigious philatelic competition for the most beautiful stamp, EUROPA 2020. All postal administrations associated with PostEurop can submit a stamp on a given theme, which this year is "Old Postal Routes." Poczta Polska (Polish Post) presented the most important communication and postal routes operating in the 16th century . Voting is open until September 9 this year.
The stamp's designer, Maciej Jędrysik, depicted a fragment of a schematic map of Poland, marking the main postal routes in use in the 16th century, along with images of foot and horse messengers. The central part of the stamp depicts the course of the Vistula River, along with the silhouettes of royal cities situated on its banks, and the names of cities: Kraków, Sandomierz, Warsaw, Toruń, Elbląg, and Gdańsk.
The EUROPA stamp series is a special edition issued by European postal administrations. It has been in circulation since 1956. Despite the changing themes of each issue, it always features the official EUROPA logo – the trademark of the association of public postal administrations, PostEurop. Over the years, EUROPA stamps have gained enormous popularity among both the postal community and philatelists. The stamps in this series are intended to express cooperation between postal operators and promote philately. The themes that emerge in subsequent years highlight the common roots, culture, history, and shared goals of the peoples of Europe.
One of the initiatives promoting the EUROPA issue among philatelists is the competition for the most beautiful EUROPA stamp, organised by PostEurop since 2002. Since 2007, the winner has been selected through an online competition on the PostEurop website.
The competition will be decided by online votes from across Europe. We encourage you to vote for the Polish stamp. Simply visit https://www.posteurop.org/europa2020 and cast your vote for the Polish stamp. Voting will be open from May 9th to September 9th, 2020.
