Honoring the 100th anniversary of the restoration of Białystok independent Poland

envelopePoczta Polska honored with the 100th anniversary of the takeover of the city of Białystok by the Polish army. The stamp worth PLN 5 went to circulation on February 19 this year. This is another stamp from the philatelic series "Polish cities".

Poland regained independence on November 11, 1918, but the German occupation of Bialystok ended only three months later - February 19, 1919. That day, a last train with the German army left the city from the city, and Polish soldiers entering Białystok appeared on the streets.

As part of philatelic emissions, Poczta Polska honors the most important Polish heroes and the most important events of our history, but also commemorates places and city. A griffin - the coat of arms of the Branicki family against the background of the Branicki Palace in Bialystok was presented in the stamp that is part of the cycle presenting Polish cities. The facility is considered one of the most beautiful projects of baroque architecture in our part of Europe. In the 18th century, the patronage of hetman Jan Klemens Branicki in the 18th century was called the "Polish Versailles" Palace. Currently in the Branicki Palace there is the headquarters of the Medical University.

Białystok is considered the pearl of the North. He has a rich history, and due to the location in the vicinity of Lithuania, Belarus and Russia, he became a place of coexistence of people of different cultures, denominations and nationalities. This fact shaped the unique character of Bialystok.

In addition to the stamp, Poczta Polska issued an FDC envelope (on the first day of circulation), at which the panorama of Bialystok was presented. Until now, as part of the "Polish Cities" series, stamps dedicated, among others Żywiec, Sieradz, Szczecin, Przemyśl, Warsaw, Katowice and Lublin, Toruń and Nowa Sącz.
