Easter eggs on postage stamps
The Polish Post has introduced "Easter" issue postage stamps into circulation. The stamps depict two types of Easter egg decorations: the Łowicz egg and the Kashubian egg..
Oklejanka Łowicz (Lowicz egg veneer) refers to eggs covered with colored paper, most often featuring Łowicz motifs—characteristic flowers or a rooster. Kraszanki, on the other hand, are made by boiling eggs in a colored broth, formerly obtained exclusively from natural ingredients. Various plants are used for this purpose, allowing for different colors to be obtained; for example, onion skins turned the eggs brown, while dark mallow flower petals turned them purple.
The tradition of decorating eggs dates back to ancient Mesopotamia. Easter eggs are also found in the writings of poets during the Roman Empire. The first Polish decorations date back to the 10th century.
This is yet another Easter-themed publication from Poczta Polska. In previous years, the stamp featured Easter eggs from Leipzig, Lemkos, and Lublin, among others.
