ChocimOn Thursday, September 2nd, the Polish Post introduced a postage stamp from the "400th Anniversary of the Battle of Chocim" issue. This new philatelic publication is a joint initiative of the Polish Post, the Lithuanian Post, and the Ukrainian Post.

The author of the designs of three stamps: Polish, Lithuanian and Ukrainian, Jarosław Ochendzan, presented on the stamp the central fragment of Józef Brandt's painting "The Battle of Chocim".

" The 'Battle of Chocim' postage stamp is another contribution by Poczta Polska to upholding educational and historical values. With this issue, we commemorate one of the greatest victories in Polish history. This is another issue created in close cooperation with foreign postal operators. I am proud that this is yet another time that postal administrations have expressed their willingness for Poczta Polska to design jointly issued stamps for Lithuanian and Ukrainian post, " says Mateusz Wodejko, Vice President of Poczta Polska.

A major battle in 1621 between combined Polish-Lithuanian forces (which included Cossack regiments) and the Turkish army took place on the outskirts of the Khotyn fortress, now located in Ukraine. They successfully resisted the onslaught of the superior forces of the Ottoman Empire. The fighting forces were commanded by the Grand Hetman of Lithuania, Jan Karol Chodkiewicz, and the Cossack Hetman, Piotr Konaszewicz-Sahajdaczny. The future King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania, Władysław Vasa, played a crucial role in coordinating the fighting forces.
