A postage stamp dedicated to the Special Olympics
The Polish Post has introduced a postage stamp from the "Special Olympics World Summer Games – Abu Dhabi 2019" issue into circulation.
The stamp depicts a competitor crossing the finish line and an athlete carrying the Olympic torch. The stamp's designer, Dorota Arczewska, a regular collaborator with the Special Olympics Poland Association, also incorporated the official logo of the Games, which will begin in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, in just a few days.
The Polish Post Office is once again issuing a postage stamp dedicated to sporting events. Last year, a special edition commemorated the Winter Olympics and Paralympics. With a special philatelic issue, the Polish Post also thanked the Polish volleyball team for their victory in last year's World Championships. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Special Olympics, a postcard with a printed fee mark was issued last year.
The Special Olympics World Summer Games Abu Dhabi 2019 will be the largest sporting and social event in the world this year. Over 7,500 athletes from over 190 Accredited Programs will descend on the United Arab Emirates. Over 2,600 coaches, 6,000 family members, and over 20,000 volunteers from around the world will also participate. The Polish Special Olympics National Team consists of 90 members, including 64 athletes and 26 coaches, doctors, and staff members.
The Games are a great celebration of tolerance and acceptance. The Special Olympics show the world that people with intellectual disabilities achieve success in sports, just as they are able to pursue their dreams in many other areas of life and social activity – at work, at school, and in family life.
