On Monday, February 22nd this year, Poczta Polska is introducing into circulation a postage stamp of the issue "90th anniversary of the revelations of Merciful Jesus to Sister Faustina".
The stamp features a painting of St. Faustina and St. John Paul II by Barbara Strzymińska-Zdanewicz, while the two tags feature images of the Merciful Jesus:
- on the left – a painting by Eugeniusz Kazimirowski from 1934, located at the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Vilnius, Lithuania (it is the only painting painted in the presence and according to the instructions of Sister Faustina);
- on the right – a painting by Adolf Hyła from 1944, located at the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Krakow-Łagiewniki (painted based on the notes in Sister Faustina’s “Diary”).
In addition to the stamp, Poczta Polska has issued a limited edition First Day Delivery (FDC) envelope. It features a photograph of the interior of the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Częstochowa – the Pallottine Fathers' "Valley of Mercy." The date stamp includes the Valley of Mercy logo.
" Poczta Polska uses its philatelic publications to commemorate great figures in the history of the Church. We recently introduced stamps honoring John Paul II, Blessed Eusebius – the founder of the Pauline Order, and Father Józef Maria Bocheński. The latest issue commemorates the revelations experienced by Sister Faustina Kowalska from the Congregation of Our Lady of Mercy. We hope that our publication will contribute to the dissemination of the testimony of this Polish saint, " said Wiesław Włodek, Vice President of Poczta Polska.
Saint Sister Faustina Kowalska belonged to the Congregation of Our Lady of Mercy. A mystic, stigmatic, and Apostle of Divine Mercy, she introduced the world to the devotion to Divine Mercy. In 1931, she experienced the grace of the Epiphany. She wrote a Diary in which she described her spiritual experiences—Sister Faustina's notes on her mystical experiences were placed on the Index of Forbidden Books for 20 years. Thanks to the content shared by the nun, Catholics, Orthodox Christians, and Protestants worldwide recite the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, which has been translated into all languages. In 2000, she was canonized by Pope John Paul II.
