A stamp commemorating the 600th anniversary of granting city rights to Mińsk Mazowiecki
On Saturday, May 29th, Poczta Polska introduced another postage stamp from the "Polish Cities" series. This year's issue, with a circulation of 5 million, will be dedicated to Mińsk Mazowiecki, which is celebrating the 600th anniversary of its city rights.
The author of the project, Andrzej Gosik, presented on the stamp a fragment of the Independence Monument and the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Mińsk Mazowiecki.
" One way Poczta Polska (Polish Post) demonstrates its concern for small local communities is by supporting local events, anniversaries, history, nature, and art, while also highlighting their history, architecture, and distinctive symbols. The 600th anniversary of the town's founding is one such event that cannot be ignored. That's why our latest stamp is dedicated to Mińsk Mazowiecki. We're showcasing a city with a rich history and a very active local community proud of its "small homeland," says Wiesław Włodek, Vice President of Poczta Polska.
The trading settlement of Mińsk received its location privilege from the Masovian Duke Janusz I on May 29, 1421. It was one of the first private locations in Eastern Masovia.
Currently, Mińsk Mazowiecki is a dynamically developing urban center where great emphasis is placed on promoting culture, history and cultivating local social ties.
In addition to the stamp, Poczta Polska will issue an FDC (first day of circulation) envelope featuring a photograph (dated to the 1930s) of the Dernałowicz Palace.
So far, as part of its "Polish Cities" circulation series, Poczta Polska has presented Gniezno, Kraków, Warsaw, Kalisz, Płock, Toruń, Pułtusk (on an envelope with a printed postage mark), Kazimierz Dolny, Sandomierz, Gdańsk, Łódź (with a Priority tag), Poznań, Przemyśl, Szczecin, Sopot, Sieradz, Katowice, Częstochowa, Gorzów Wielkopolski, Chorzów, Racibórz, Jelenia Góra, Nowy Sącz, Żywiec, Białystok, Leszno, and Bydgoszcz.
