Paralympic Games stamp
On Thursday, July 15, Poczta Polska will introduce a postage stamp from the "XVI Summer Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020" issue. A circulation of 144,000 stamps will be distributed to post offices across the country.
The official unveiling of the stamp took place on the day of issue, July 15, at the Torwar Central Sports Centre. The stamp was presented during a conference attended by, among others, Łukasz Szeliga, President of the Polish Paralympic Committee; Piotr Gliński, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture, National Heritage and Sport; and Krzysztof Falkowski, Vice President of the Management Board of Poczta Polska.
Designer Jan Konarzewski depicted a stylized silhouette of a female table tennis player on the stamp, inspired by Natalia Partyka. In addition to the stamp, Poczta Polska issued an FDC (first day of circulation) envelope featuring origami (crane), a characteristic of traditional Japanese art.
The opening ceremony of the Tokyo Paralympic Games will take place on August 24. For the first time, athletes with disabilities practicing taekwondo and badminton will compete for medals.
The Paralympic Games are the greatest celebration of athletes with disabilities and those who admire their talent and fortitude.
The IOC and Japanese authorities have postponed the 2020 Paralympic Games to 2021 (while retaining the event's original name). The reason for this decision was the coronavirus pandemic.
Our country will be represented at this year's Paralympics by 89 athletes in 12 disciplines.
We keep our fingers crossed for the white and reds!
