A unique stamp commemorates the centenary of the birth of an outstanding diplomat

To mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Professor Krzysztof Skubiszewski (1926-2010), Poczta Polska issued a commemorative stamp commemorating the distinguished diplomat and first head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Third Polish Republic. This unique philatelic issue was unveiled during a ceremony on October 6th of this year at the Faculty of Law and Administration of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.

The stamp was presented by Marek Mąkosa, Vice President of the Management Board of Poczta Polska, with the participation of His Magnificence, Rector of Adam Mickiewicz University, Professor Bogumiła Kaniewska, Professor Tomasz Nieborak, and Professor Hanna Suchocka. A panel discussion, the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, and the naming of the Collegium Rubrum Auditorium after Professor Skubiszewski were also held.

" We are paying tribute to a man whose work left a lasting mark on the history of a free and sovereign Poland. Poczta Polska's philatelic issue commemorates this outstanding diplomat, the first Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Third Polish Republic, a scholar, and a statesman," said Marek Mąkosa, Vice President of Poczta Polska. "The special significance of this issue is also given to Professor Skubiszewski, a great lover of philately."

The stamp features a photo of Professor Krzysztof Skubiszewski, as does the First Day of Circulation (FDC) envelope. The date stamp design uses a facsimile of the professor's signature.

The ceremony was attended by, among others, His Magnificence Rector of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Professor Bogumiła Kaniewska, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcin Bosacki, and Father Dr. Jan Słowiński representing the Apostolic Nuncio to Poland.

Krzysztof Skubiszewski assumed the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs on September 12, 1989, in Tadeusz Mazowiecki's government and served in that capacity in subsequent governments. He played a key role in shaping Polish foreign policy after Poland regained its sovereignty. As a distinguished international lawyer, he helped shape Poland's position in the emerging international arena and supported its return to the democratic community of European states. He co-laid the foundations for Poland's strategic course toward European and Euro-Atlantic integration, paving the way for future membership in NATO and the European Union. After leaving the ministerial ranks, he also served in prestigious international law institutions.

The Polish Post would like to thank the family of Professor Krzysztof Skubiszewski: Piotr and Marcin Skubiszewski, as well as Łukasz Dębski, for their help in the production of philatelic publications of the issue "100th anniversary of the birth of Professor Krzysztof Skubiszewski (1926-2010)".

The project is accompanied by limited-edition collectibles, which can be purchased, among others, through the Poczta Polska online store.
